Mathematical-Technical Software Developer (f/m/d)
About Us
The Institute of Highway Engineering Aachen stands for a sustainable and digital transport infrastructure. As a research institution, we therefore focus on the development and use of modern technologies and procedures in the field of road infrastructure. For this reason, we operate, among other things, an institute-internal driving simulator in which various infrastructure elements and driving situations can be examined from a traffic psychology perspective and for aspects of traffic safety.
For our team we are looking for a person with computer science background to further develop and supervise this driving simulator and to support the scientific staff in research projects involving the simulator.
Your Profile
- A successfully completed degree in computer science or software development (Bachelor), or a completed vocational training as a mathematical-technical software developer (MATSE) with a Bachelor's degree, or a comparable qualification
- Sound knowledge of one or more programming languages (Python, C#, C++)
- Knowledge and experience in Unity with C# or comparable (e.g. Unreal Engine), experience with Blender or with the integration of VR glasses is advantageous
- Knowledge in web technologies like JavaScript, HTML5, CSS, and PHP/Python desirable
- Knowledge in network administration (Windows) desirable
- Business fluent German, good English skills
- High motivation, ability to cooperate and work in a team as well as the ability to independently, responsibly and successfully carry out projects
Your Tasks
Your main task is the support and further development of the institute's own driving simulator. This includes the modeling of new situations (creation of 3D models), the integration of new software modules, the further development for a realistic test environment and the use of new technologies (e.g. VR glasses) as well as the technical support of the driving simulator studies.
In addition to this main task, there is a small amount of other work, which includes supporting the scientific staff in research projects, building websites and supporting our network administrator.

The position is to be filled as soon as possible and is limited in time until 12/31/2024. Continued employment is desired.

Your Profile
- Student at University or University of Applied Sciences in the field of (technical) computer science, electrical engineering or a closely related course of study
- Knowledge of one or more programming languages (Python, C#, C++)
- Knowledge and experience in Unity with C# or comparable (e.g. Unreal-Engine), experience with Blender and / or with the integration of VR goggles are advantageous
- Good knowledgeof German and English
Your Tasks
- Programming support of the scientific staff in projects
- Independent processing of partial aspects of the present programming tasks
- Supporting the operation of our driving simulator
Our Offers
The employment takes place as a Student Assistant. The position is to be filled as soon as possible and is limited to 3 months. An extension is planned and desired. This is a part-time position.
The regular weekly working time is 8-12 hours. The classification is based on the guidelines for student and research assistants. The position is valued at 12.00 € per hour.#
