SMANCY
Preliminary Study on the Conceptual Design and Implementation of an Automated and Context-Sensitive Warning and Information System for Road Users
Problem Definition
The increasing use of smartphones by road users has led to an increase in accident rates in recent years. This concerns road users with motorized vehicles as well as pedestrians and cyclists. The previous approaches to counteract show little to no improvement. A system wich sends collision warnings to the user smartphone could help to warn the road users against danger.
Project Objective
Within the scope of a preliminary study, the technical, legal and economic feasibility of the above described approach to collision and thus accident avoidance will be examined. If the study is successful, the complete system can be developed and tested in a follow-up project. The target system should be named "Smart Angel City - SMANCY".
Implementation
Existing accident statistics and other relevant data of the police in cologne, real-time data of the cologne public transport companies as well as control data of the traffic light systems are first merged and analyzed. In addition, the requirements for the sensor technology of smartphones must be determined in order to enable accident prediction. These analyzes are the basis for the conception of a smartphone-based warning and information system for road users. In addition, ancillary conditions such as data protection and IT security aspects are included and an acceptance analysis is carried out.
