The road construction administrations have been dealing with the problems of site-related traffic jams for a long time, just like the road users. The increase in these disruptions is attributable to the disproportionately high traffic loads against the growth in the length of the motorway network, but also to the increase in the number of recreational and entertainment activities due to the age of the motorway network.
The high traffic loads and the ever-shorter sections of traffic-restricted times prove the necessity to move short-term work also into the night hours (night construction sites). The objective of the present research project is thus to develop a practical and generally applicable illumination concept for modern and safe night construction sites.
