The research project will investigate whether the use of fluorescent materials in highway construction sites can be expected to result in a sustainable safety gain over a longer period of time and to what extent the subjective safety assessment of road users is responsible for this (habituation effects).
The methodical approach and the resulting work program provide for 5 work steps. Based on a fundamental analysis and a subsequent laboratory study with detectability tests and luminance evaluations, the long-term effects of the use of fluorescent materials will be investigated in a two-stage simulator study and a parallel pilot test in two selected working areas on freeways (measuring and reference section). Finally, recommendations are derived for the use of fluorescent materials in work sites of longer duration on freeways
