Requirements of Automated Driving to Traffic Infrastructure
Problem Definition
Automation and networking of driving functions are becoming more and more important. Nevertheless, there are many situations in which today's automated vehicles reach their limits (for example: in workplaces, in bad weather conditions, etc.). In these situations, traffic infrastructure can support the vehicles.
Project Objective
Presentation and evaluation of infrastructure potentials to support automated driving in the future. As a basis for the elaboration of the potentials, traffic infrastructure areas (BAB, extra-urban as well as intra-urban roads) and external boundary conditions or deficits (e.g. in working areas, tunnels, lane reductions, etc.) as well as the type of restriction are to be determined first.
Implementation
The potentials of traffic infrastructure for automated driving are analyzed based on an evaluation of the findings from already existing test fields for autonomous driving with a special focus on infrastructure. Furthermore, the weaknesses of the automated vehicles, in particular of the sensors used, will be investigated.
