Temporary Traffic Routes on Long-Term Work Sites
Traffic-compatible temporary traffic routing for highly congested highways
Motivation
The aim of the research project and the work plan proposed by the provider is to expand the data set of FE 01.0176 for highly loaded, in particular 6-lane highways on the basis of extensive investigations of traffic flow and traffic safety at work sites of longer duration and to deepen it with regard to further influencing parameters in order to derive more reliable standardized indicators for future planning of work sites.
Recommendations for the further development of job site planning and job site management are derived from the research results brought together via both projects, and text modules for the updating of the relevant sets of rules (in particular guidelines and rules of Autobahn GmbH) are developed and coordinated with the supervisory committee.
Overall, the main research areas of traffic flow, traffic quality and traffic safety at longer-duration work sites (AlD) on highways are addressed. The consortium is therefore composed of experts on the topics of traffic flow ( Schwietering Ingenieure GmbH, Bundeswehr University Munich and University of Siegen) and traffic safety (RWTH Aachen University Institute of Highway Engineering, University of Siegen and BSV Büro für Stadt- und Verkehrsplanung GmbH).
Project Objectives
- Updating and completing the state of knowledge on traffic flow, traffic quality and traffic safety at AlD on freeways
- Investigation of the traffic safety of temporary traffic routing on highly congested, in particular 6-lane highways, differentiated according to the relevant boundary conditions in addition to the investigation collective of FE 01.0176 for the statistical substantiation of the findings, development of a common database with accident indicators of the individual work site directions
- Empirical investigation of traffic flow as well as supplementary simulations of temporary traffic routing on highly congested, in particular 6-lane highways with regard to their effects on q-V relationships and capacity, differentiated according to the relevant boundary conditions in addition to the investigation collective of FE 01.0176 for the statistical substantiation of the findings, development of a common database with capacity values of the individual working directions
- Review, optimization or further development of existing models for the description of characteristic capacities for the investigated temporary traffic routes, differentiated according to the relevant boundary conditions
- Review and further development of the proposal from FE 01.0176 for the description of characteristic accident figures for the examined traffic routes, differentiated according to the relevant boundary conditions
- Derivation of recommendations for the planning of long-term construction sides on federal highways, in particular for the selection of a suitable temporary traffic routing that meets the requirements for traffic-compatible implementation, based on the merged results from both projects. Preparation serves as a basis for the implementation of the model in the traffic analysis system (VAS) as well as in the relevant regulations (in particular for the further development of the guidelines for the management of work sites on federal freeways)
