Motivation

In the event of cardiovascular arrest, survival depends to a large extent on the smooth interaction of the components of the rescue chain. In addition to immediate cardiac massage by first responders, the availability of an automated external defibrillator (AED) is of central importance. However, this also represents a major challenge.

The 5URVIVE research project focuses on improving survival in emergency care: one way of improving the rescue chain is being investigated. This is to be achieved by providing the necessary resources and by optimizing route planning and the flow of information between the control center, the ambulance crew and the hospital.

Project Objective

The aim is to develop an integrated, 5G-based system. By networking, integrating and optimizing the individual links in the chain, the aim is to increase the chance of survival for emergency patients.

Procedure

The optimized rescue chain will include the following steps:

  • Detection of a circulatory arrest
  • Placement of the emergency call
  • Alerting of rescue forces and first responders in the vicinity
  • Support through rapid approach of aids, e.g. AED or integration of an emergency physician via AR glasses
  • Generation of a "digital emergency lane" for the deployment of rescue forces

A powerful communications solution is essential for implementing this rescue chain. 5G technology is a suitable basis for this. The aim of this project is to research and evaluate the advantages of the technology for the individual components and for the rescue chain as a whole.
