Winter Semester: Tunnel Planning

Summer Semester: Tunnel Operation

For the module "Tunnel Planning and Operation" it is recommended to take the course "Tunnel Planning" first in the winter semester.

The courses provide knowledge in the areas of planning, dimensioning, equipment and operation of tunnels for road and rail transport.

The course “tunnel planning” includes topics such as traffic tunnel construction in Germany, the standards used in tunnel planning and tunnel operation, cross-sectional design of road and railway tunnels, road and rail layouts, design of underground subway systems, dewatering, emission of air pollutants and noise at tunnel entrance.

The course "tunnel operation" covers topics such as tunnel safety, ventilation, lighting, as well as control and monitoring of road tunnels.
